Born in Gelnhausen in 1964, I made my way into the filmbusiness by chance after school.

A hobby modelmaker since I am six, ‘‘STAR WARS‘‘ made me curious on film-modelmaking in 1979. My dream, making models for a  similar science fiction-film, came true in 1988, when I got a job as CHIEFMODELMAKER on ROLAND EMMERICH‘S "MOON 44".

After several years of freelance working I decided to start a job training as an  Advertising Businessman and I finished it successfully in 1992.

In 1993 I started studying Animation and SFX at the FILMAKADEMIE BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG. Here I met Volker Engel again. We knew each other from working on "MOON 44". Together with Volker Engel who was an assistant at the Filmakademie during that time, I worked on several VFX-Projects, mostly as a Heading Modelmaker.

Not only for that reason, but  for my work on "MOON44", I was asked by Volker Engel in March 1995 to come to HOLLYWOOD and work as a
MODELMAKER on ‘‘INDEPENDENCE DAY‘‘ in Volker Engel's Crew.

I worked in the ID4-MODELSHOP for nine months and gained a lot of new  experience. The movie was awarded with the Academy Award (‘‘OSCAR‘‘) for best VISUAL EFFECTS.

I contiued my studies after returning home and finished with DIPLOMA in  January 1999.

I am now working as a freelance DIRECTOR, VISUAL EFFECTS SUPERVISOR, ANIMATOR and MODELMAKER.

In December 1999 my Diploma Film "Alien Nieghbourhood" had had World Premiere at the CINEMAGIC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR YOUNG POEPLE in Belfast / Northern Ireland.

In December 1999-January 2000 I had the oppertunity to work as a MODELMAKER on "THE PATRIOT" , another  ROLAND EMMERICH movie.
In the final days of modelmaking for this movie, I was responsible for rigging the historic main battleship models.

"Alien Nieghbourhood" was again shown to public audience on
LE FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DU FILM POUR ENFANTS DE MONTREAL
in Montreal / Canada, in March 2000.

From 2.- 9. December 2000 I had the honor and joy to participate, with my Diploma Film  "Alien Nieghbourhood" at the 3. OLYMPIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE in Pyrgos, Greece.

In  2000 I made my hobby, airplane modelling in 1:48 scale, a second business and started producing and distributing LIMITED EDITION MODEL KITS under my own newly formed brand 48SPECIAL MODELS.

My Film  "Alien Nieghbourhood" was also invited to and shown on the FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DU FILM POUR L'ENFANCE ET LA JEUNESSE in Sousse (Tunisie) in 2001.

In  March  2002 I was invited by the Egypt Ministery of Culture to participate as a  MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY at the CAIRO INTENATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE.  My first visit to the African Continent  which impressed me much.

Besides some Filmjobs, which are listed in my Filmography, I focused on bringing forward my e-business and the developing and producing of new, historic-technical interesting  modelkits.

I am also still working as a Director, Animator, Modelmaker and VFX-Supervisor for movies too.

Since beginning of 2008 I am producing models for Frontline Tabletop, the company of my former student collegue Michael Krämer. This models are made for tabletop games the kind of Warhammer, etc. and are high quality products.  In addition they have a  self developed and patent pending connecting system, which increases their versatility and playability. These items are released since October 2008 and are enjoying themselves a contious increaseing popularity.

My own 48Special Models Internetshop grew also during the past years and nowadays has over 1000model related items in stock! It will continue expanding and holds now the range from Frontline Tabletop too.

Besides that I had the honor and joy to be an advisor for the children's movie "Tiere der Großstadt" which was released shortly. It is a classic stop-motion picture, useing also the modern digital imaging and computer compositing techniques.  It shows well the possibilities of combining modern CGI with traditional Stop-Motion Techniques. This makes "big movies" possible with a small crew without lack of quality. It is the clear proof that animation film isn't dead nore out of date.
