Dombunker
dienten als Luftschutzunterstand für die, an der
Atlantikküste eingesetzen, K5 Geschütze. |

The 28cm Railway
Gun K5 (E) was well known by its nickname "Leopold" which was donated
by one of its crews. In fact the K5 (E) was developed before WWII and a so called "Eisenbahngeschütz" (which the E istands for). It was one of the guns manufactured most and was used on many fronts during WWII for example Sevastopol (Russia) and Anzio (Italy). As a wapon the K5 was outdated and during war more and more replaced by much more effectiv aircraftt. The model shown here ist the Trumpeter kit with a machined and drilled aluninum barrel, available as a extra from Schatton. this extra part was co-developed by me. Its mass is more than 600g and therefore it is necessary to convert the whole kit in many ways to carry the barrels weight and make it moveable too. The complete conversion story is to be found at my 48 Special Models hompage. Besides the Gun, which has more than 1400 parts, the railway with turntable was built, as well as the so called "Dombunker" (Cathedral-shelter). These shelters were widely used at the Atlantic coast to protect the K5 against air raids.. The shelter I built can also be used as a transportation box for the gun and a part of the tracks. The whole diorama is longer than 3m! |
