Die
B-29
mit Bell X-1 in M 1:48!
Die
Abmessungen der Grundplatte sind 105x77cm!
Unschwer
dazu mittels hydraulischer Stempel angehoben. Diese Methode
vereinfachte
Plastikmodell Deutschlands.
The size of the base is 105x77cm!
Easy to see the diorama
shows the B-29 which will get the Bell X-1 fixed underneath. What is
special is the method how. The B-29 was lifted hydralically. This
method made mounting easier, because only the lightwight test aircraft
needed to be moved arround, instead of the whole bomber.
The B-29 is the Monogram
kit, which had had erased all gun turrets. The bombbay and the pressure
bulkhead was modified by use of original photographs. The X-1 is a
resin kit by Eagles -Taloon, which is not a good one. The only
advantages are the converted front bulkhead, made from resin (which I
only used as a pattern) and the decals for both aircraft. The tractor
was taken from the B-24J kit by Monogram, also some of the figures.
Something special that all my 48 scale prop aircraft have are the
electric engine driven props.
The diorama base was made from furnitured chipboard, which has been
spraypanited with clear laquer. The black surrounding is made from
wooden boards. The airfield consists of a styrofoam board (50mm thick),
which has sanding paper cemented on top. The surrounding territory was
covered with epoxy and sprinkled with static grass. After all had
set it was spraypainted.
The hydralic system was build from photographs and is static. The power
for the lights and engines comes through cables integrated in the
landingear and the hydralic struts. The cables run underneath the
styrofoam plate. The styrofoam
plate is only put in place loose to give access to the cables.
The lettering was made with a copyable decal foil. The text was set by
computer use and photocopy
to the decal. After applying to the
base it was sealed with clear laquer for protection.
In 1998 the model was awarded 2. best plastic model of Germany at
the Modellbau Süd exhibition.
